E-commerce Server Types and Specifications
Services such as GoDaddy do not provide enough bandwidth speed required for communicating between the SQL database and the website. Using a dedicated e-commerce server will give the best results.
Options for Hosting E-commerce
Virtual Machine — Created from the resources of an existing server. This additional server will house the e-commerce website. A firewall is required between the two servers because the e-commerce server will be exposed to the public domain. Virtual instance capability is included with Microsoft 2012 R2 and newer.
Physical Machine — A separate machine from your primary SQL server. It will be on the same network and will house the e-commerce website. A firewall is required between the two servers because the e-commerce server will be exposed to the public domain.
Cloud Hosted Server — The server will connect to the SQL server through a VPN and transfer the data via SQL replication. The cloud server will need a virtual machine that will house the e-commerce website.
- Local Network ServerCloud ServerVM E-commerce — This allows only the VM e-commerce to be exposed to the public domain.
- Gives you data redundancy in addition to the e-commerce hosting.
- Requires the purchase of SQL Server Data Replication from INxSQL.
